Pastor Appreciation Month

October is Pastor Appreciation Month, so I thought I’d share a few of the many things I appreciate about my pastor.

  1. He’s a diligent student of the Word.
  2. He prays with frequency and fervence.
  3. He does not take his position for granted, but stewards it with proper fear and gratitude.
  4. He guards our church’s doctrine, knowing it is a matter of life and death.
  5. He loves learning, reading widely and well.
  6. He has experience beyond ministry, having worked in finance previously, and understands the struggles of laypeople.
  7. He cares for his body and soul through regular exercise.
  8. He is kind to animals, medicating my cat daily against her yowling protests.
  9. He is great with kids, always asking how he can help with my little son.
  10. He’s tidy, making sure my garbage bins are set out for the collection trucks.
  11. He is thoughtful, bringing me coffee and treats whenever he can.
  12. He is generous and lets me buy as many books as my little heart desires.

Oh, did I not mention that my pastor is also my husband? Oops. If your pastor sneaks into your house to medicate your pets, hang out with your kids, or bring you sweet treats, it’s definitely time to find a new, less creepy church. I suspect, however, we’d all appreciate having our garbage bins rolled to the curb for us.
